A new home

Welcome to my new blog! Well, it’s basically the old blog (all the posts from that one are here) but with a new look, new functionality, and a new name.

Why the new name? Although I do write about knitting, I write about lots of other things, too. So it seems right that my blog’s name not be limited to knitting.

Why Wordpress? A few months ago, yet another set of problems with uploading images pushed me to an “I need to move my blog to anywhere by Blogger” state of mind. After much research (mostly done by my terrific husband, Jan, who’s also done most of the tech stuff here) I settled on Wordpress, which offers great customization and stability. A few Wordpress features that I like (and I hope you will, too!):

  • RSS feeds for comments. Ever leave a comment on another blog and wonder if someone every responded to it? Wonder no longer!
  • Pages. Static pages, rather than posts, let me keep certain information readily accessible. My pages are currently located under the title bar. One includes a list of the projects I want to knit (though I still need to figure out how to align the photos with the text properly), and another will include a list of finished projects.
  • Built-in search box. In addition to looking up posts by labels or categories, you can now also search by keywords.
  • Drop-down boxes for categories and archives. This keeps the sidebar looking a lot cleaner.

Please update your bookmarks and RSS feeds. In the sidebar are links for the RSS feeds for posts and for comments.

As you can see, I’m still finding my way around here. There’s a lot of tweaking and cleaning up to do before I get this blog looking just the way I like. (There’s no blogroll yet, for example.) So please pardon my mess–this is still under construction.
