Gold

pb168277fall2.jpgYou know how you see something amazing and take a photo of it, then see that your photo doesn’t look anything like what you saw? (Sunsets are perhaps the most famous example of this sort of thing.)

Well, the other morning, I looked out my dining-room window while Sylvia and I were eating breakfast, and I saw that, seemingly overnight, the trees ringing my backyard had dropped many of their leaves. They’d been green through the unseasonably warm October and early November, and finally started turning a week or so ago. I sort of imagine that the trees, holding on to the last vestiges of summer, were relieved when the cold damp weather came at last, sighed as a huge responsibly was lifted from them, and let themselves start falling asleep for the winter.

When I saw the blanket of newly fallen golden leaves (with plenty of green ones still clinging up high, as you can see–but not for long…) I took a picture of it, thinking it would never look quite like the magical view from my window. But it does (even with a part of the window frame at the top). And I am pleased.

    Moonrise is another tricky one…

We had some of that same effect going on, and I was so tempted to take pictures, but kept forgetting. I guess it’s ok that I didn’t, eh?

Hmm, nothing gold can stay, but the picture is lovely.

This is an awesome picture! It’s an amazing adventure to watch the leaves turn their different colors. My absolutely most favorite ones are the blazing red leaves. While running through my neighborhood this morning I relished the sound of the leaves crunching beneath my feet and looking up at the gorgeous colors in the trees as I passed by them.

We still have lots of green in these parts, but a liquidambar leaf blew into my open trunk today, reminding me that deciduosity does indeed exist in SoCal. But not as much or as nicely as in your parts, I reckon. Awesome pic!

That’s a lovely photo and it certainly captures the sense I get of the Fall season. It reminds me how much I enjoy being outdoors and enjoying nature — and watching my son romp through the leaves.

Oh and I found your blog via unclutterer ;)

Beautiful picture - I do love how golden it turned out! (And I adore Katie J’s Robert Frost/Outsiders homage…hehe.)

Rainbows are *definitely* the first thing that came to mind when you mentioned that picture-that-never-comes-out-quite-right phenomenon. Once I did actually get a great shot, but normally they’re almost entirely invisible when you get the print back from developing! (Okay, yes, it HAS been that long since I’ve taken a picture of a rainbow that it was pre-digital cameras. I wonder how that would change now, since you can have numerous attempts at getting it to work out just right!)

Okay, enough from me for today! ;)

    Stay gold, Ponyboy…

Just a few days after I took that photo, we had an hour-long mini-storm with heavy rain and strong winds. Knocked down pretty much all the rest of the leaves off the trees in my yard.

So true! Sunsets, moonlight are hard to capture. You did a great job here. It looks like it is raining gold!
