About

A sociocultural anthropologist by training and a wordsmith by trade, I live with my husband, my daughter, and my cat in the Mid-Atlantic, which is not at all where I ever expected to be. (Funny, isn’t it, how life goes?) When I’m not trying to theorize class in terms of place or rewriting other people’s manglings of the English language, I knit and read and cook and garden and hike and think and eat and photograph and sing and write and travel and plan and hope and . . .

Thanks for paying me a visit. Please join the conversation.

(If you wish to contact me by e-mail, I’m at marsha at first-things-first.net.)

    Marsha, Marsha, MARSHA!

    Bonjour Mon Amie~
Girrlll I’ve been trying to track you down for years. I googled you today and found an old website of yours which brought me here. I’m so excited (and quite diverted) to read your blogs. They are hilarious! I can’t believe you are in PA now! I live in VA.

Once I left Belleville, I had no intention of going back. But, as we used to say en francais, “Pas du tous! Au contraire!” Alas I make my grand return this August for the 1988 Class reunion.

After my first year at SIUE, I moved back to Europe and there I stayed for 9yrs. We moved to VA around 1998 and have been here ever since. I quite enjoy the area (I live in Hampton roads). My parents just got back from a long visit to the “Motherland” (aka Spain). I’m planning on going back next year.

    How are you???

I envy your knitting talents. Another outlet for your creativity, no? I still have my Senior yearbook where you wrote all of your comments BACKWARDS.

Anyhoo~ I hope to hear from you soon.

    Ciao!

    Loline
