This sort of effort takes a high degree of community-mindedness (e.g., a willingness for everyone to work as a team without a “looking out for #1” mentality) and interest in pro-environment projects.

Think it could ever happen in the USA? I’m not so sure . . .

    What an amazing concept! I have many students who plan to study environmental issues overseas because the U.S. is so stagnated in its research – and Germany is the place to go. The Grameen Bank of Bangladesh is also doing its part – giving microcredit to poor families who want to buy solar panels for electricity!

    I *wish* it could…that’s all I can say, for now. Maybe the direction our country is going will shift?
